    Canada Goose

Geese and swans were gathering in a melted portion of the lake, it had been frozen, then was melting again, on and off all Fall and winter so far. So I got a chance for some shots at decent range. This isn't perfect, but I like it in some ways. Just getting around to processing some more shots from the same day I shot the swan which I posted recently now that I got time.

I think you got a little bit more space around this birdie than you should...just a thought...

They do make for good practice. Nice effort.

Izzie, I did not crop tighter with reason. The bird itself isn't all that pretty but the water and ice in my opinion are. The bird isn't my favorite part of this shot and wouldn't be of suitable quality for a frame- filling crop. Thanks though for commenting.

    Thanks John

I'm glad that these birds have headed down your way. The darn things live up this way during the summer and are not the friendliest birds around, although the newborn chicks are cute for the first few weeks and then they start to look just like their parents. They can be a real pest along the bicycle paths along the river and they have attacked people that get too close.

I find it amazing that the Canada Goose was an endangered species and was protected in the 1950s. They certainly have made a fairly spectacular recovery in the interim.

    Thanks Manfred,

We've got them most of the year around here, though recently they've become quite a bit less common, but we see them notably more through fall till winter arrives, though according to range maps they winter in parts of MI. also. Yeah, I heard that once they were rare birds seen in this state, passing through from way up north during migration like many other species of water fowl, but that's all different now. I still enjoy them even though they're common.

Yes, exactly my first thoughts about having the bird rather central.

I would crop a little from the bottom and have a different size ratio to add more impact all round. But just a thought.

Okay, I'll go with the crop suggestion, though the water and the ice is what I liked best about the image, (not the silly goose), besides, the goose isn't good enough quality for a big crop.

I'm somewhat un-decided as to whether I like it better or not, but maybe, how about you?

Nick, I feel like you that the picture is about the water and ice, although sitting here at a temperature of close to 30 degrees C I didn't think about ice. I like the original.

Thanks Tony. I like the image either way... well enough. I bet you think some ice would be nice
