Rita, you have captured the magic very nicely in all of these. I think if you try to correct the horizon in no.3 it would be important to retain the lamp posts vertical in the right side. If you are using Photoshop, try using perspective rather than straighten and crop. Photoshop's Warp tool would allow you to retain everything in the image while correcting the horizon but it is tricky.
    Wonderful images.

Barbara, thank you for commenting. I used to think that people that got up before dawn and braved the elements to get an image were a bit crazy. Having now done this myself I have decided that those who do this really are crazy (myself included). However, would I do it again? I sure would!

Nick, no problem. I appreciate that we all see things that others don't. For me it expands what I see and helps me to learn

Tony, thank you. The physics of how something works is totally out of my league so I can't help in that regard. I just know what to do with my camera to make the starburst appear

Neville, thank you. I just recently started to play with perspective. My first attempt was sort of interesting I am going to look up some tutorials to try and learn how to use it.

And what is that? I don't know how this affect is done, but I'd like to.

Nick, if I set my aperture to f22 or somewhere around there then I get the starburst effect. Setting up with a wider aperture then there is no starburst. It works for the sun and lights in night shots, for instance seeing a pic of a street scene and the street lamps look like stars. Hope this makes sense.

Late to comment, but wanted to say, well done for getting up early and in freezing temperatures to share these with us. I particularly like the first shot in both versions. I am also motivated to get up early tomorrow morning to capture sun rise as I am currently in a location that merits the very least of an effort on my part, so thank you for the nudge.

Cool, thanks, I want to try that soon. I wouldn't have thought of that probably, since I wouldn't think of using a tight aperture in dark scenes.

    Happy New Year Rita!

Also late to the party but I just wanted to let you know that I also think these are especially beautiful. Gorgeous colours! My favourites being the 1st (cropped) and the last for the blue tones and the star...

-8C - I think it was -12C with the wind chill. And likely even colder in Abbotsford! I've also heard that when it is cold here it feels far colder than say Peace River at -20C +++ because it is so damp here... I too have nearly froze to death these past few days... and still no snow! (: All that said I think you should head out tomorrow morning and visit again before the rain returns. Definitely worth it!

Nick, because you will have a slower shutter speed trying this a tripod will come in handy. Have fun experimenting with it

    Re: Sunrise

Hi Christina. Thanks for your comments. Yes it has been really cold, the -8 I stated was just the temperature without the windchill......bbbrrrrrr. My last check of the weather showed that it is supposed to be mixed rain and snow all day tomorrow so if they are right on the forecast it won't be a good morning to be out. However, I will be revisiting for some more tries at this as soon as I can. The tricky part is getting the timing with a nice day and the tide up a bit so there is some water in the scene. When the tide is out at White Rock it is out to the end of the pier.

You have captured some great colours in these shots, Rita. It was definitely worth making the effort to get up early. I also favour the first one because of the leading lines in the foreground. While the crop has solved the problem of the blur, I wonder if you could possibly get away with something slightly less aggressive and keep some of those lines in the frame.

Thanks for commenting Greg. I can play some more with the crop.
