    One year

Several people have expressed an interest in seeing the one year cycle of shots of the barn I have become (in) famous for.

The barn was inaccessible for most of the winter and until spring was well advanced. And in selecting shots I noticed that June, August and September are poorly represented. So now my obsession can be feed by filling in the gaps.

Excellent series Trevor, really great colours. For me I really like the April shot, showing the isolation.

An interesting progression with some great shots BUT with your mild winters Dec-Apr should be easy. How far away is the barn from where you live? If you won't take them maybe I should just amble over and take a few - can't be that hard can it...... Maybe not - I have just remembered your stunning winter outfit you modelled for us sometime ago.

Beautiful transistions, Trevor...I wonder what you can come up during the next few months....

Paul ... During this time of the year, I would rather be downunder.

Great set of what seems to be a fascinating little barn. I love the colours in the July shot and also the sky in September.

You are right I should stop being such a wimp. What could go wrong on a nice 2 km walk in midwinter?

Several winters ago I was driving out in the open prairie and the tail gate on my truck fell open and a jerry can of diesel fuel fell out. Since it was about 100 metres back I decided not to turn the truck around and chance getting stuck and just walk back to get it. There was about a 20 km per hour wind at the time and it was minus 30C. I barely made it back to the truck. With about 10 metres to go I was quite seriously wondering if I would. Took me about 10 minutes in the truck to warm up sufficiently to drive on. While I was sitting there I watched a deer walk across the open fields. The deer was in no rush to reach shelter and was pawing at the snow to see if it could find some left over grain to eat.

    Hi Trevor,

Just to say I adore all your barn shots. So much so that I'm thinking that one day I will to visit Dawson Creek to try photographing barns.

It's truly a pleasure to see them presented as a set. Exceptionally beautiful!

Trevor, these are all great shots but...July!!!!!! I know you put a lot of effort into (getting) these images but July is just an absolutely perfect shot and has to be THE shot that summarizes July way up there.

Very neat. You caught beautiful skies in most of them. Many are great pictures by themselves.

    Re: One year

Now there's dedication. Lovely series. Both Octobers and June/July for me for the sheer pictorial quality (although all of them are pretty good) and April for interest. April is interesting because (I think) it shows why the barn was built where it is. Looks like the only bit of high ground in the immediate area.

I have always been a firm believer of natural selection. If you do get overcome by the harsh environment (not even snakes to contend with) just remember it is just natures way of eliminating a genetic pool that is not as good as a deer.

Mind you the brains to stay inside may be worth preserving. Not for me to judge.

Should you ever consider photographing in prairies, the optimal times are early July (for the canola and flax in bloom), late August for the mature wheat/barley/rye and early October for the best light and also because by then most of the crop is harvested and walking access across the fields is allowed.

Too late in my case. My genes are loose in the world. There are now five people affected by my genetic heritage. Sorry.

Thanks to everyone for the comments.
This is still a work in progress and weather and free time permitting I will see what the next year will allow.

You do realize provided the kids have left home from natures perspective you are now redundant... Ooops I'm in the same boat.
