Sharing a Photograph from my newest Camera

I bought a Fuji x100s a few months ago. The two main reasons were for Street Portraiture and also I liked the idea of the Leaf Shutter and the consequences and functionality apropos Flash as Fill. I also have to admit I was taken by the design and quality of finish of the camera: and the (Fuji) Optic is excellent. F/2 is nice to have.

I haven’t really had the opportunity to use the Leaf Shutter and Fill Flash as much as I would have liked, but I do take the Fuji fellow with me most everywhere and, as a “Street Camera” it suits my purposes perfectly as thus far as I have not yet found a disappointment that could not be easily worked around; or the ‘error’ was because I had simply not learnt enough about the camera.

This is a sample which was taken earlier this year.

Nice image, I am wondering what they thought if the concert, so the image has maybe not told the whole story, but it has indeed caught my interest.
    Good work.

It didn't appear to me that this moment in time was about the concert in any manner, whatsoever.

Wonderful grouping of people. 'Street' is indeed about capturing the moment, as this shows us, as has Phil on the streets of Dubai and London.

Very good Bill it seems like a useful camera. I was very puzzled as they all look remarkably civilized then I realised it was taken in Austria not in another similar sounding country....

Hilarious! we share the same sense of humour.

And thank you for the nice comment also: and yes - it is a wonderful camera.

Thank you for noticing and also for commenting.

I had to move backwards quite abruptly (and also to camera left) when I saw the moment: in doing so I encroached upon others' personal space.
I still clipped his glasses and the hand of the girl, second from the left.
That’s the way it goes when one is using a Prime Lens.

Well captured Bill and they do indeed look so desponded - maybe the concert was cancelled...!! I too am enjoying the x100s and love the colour renditions it produces.

Nice capture Bill. Beautiful colour, the quality shouts at you. Hand held ? Without flash? I generally pick up my XT1 before anything else these days but I still shoot RAW. However, I keep hearing about how good the SOOC JPGS are, especially the colour. Is this JPG?

Thanks. The yellow is the shadow area of the inside window rim on the train and the deep crimson is the girl’s coat: I used the eye-dropped tool to match those colours, when I created the Picture Frame.

Yes, me too. I am enjoying the Film Simulations and also the discipline of shooting for the specific outcome: “JPEG, Straight Out Of Camera”, using the film simulations combined with the In-Camera JPEG Processing. This is akin to shooting Kodachrome / Ektachrome, which (insanely) I used to use for some of my street portraiture years ago. Using Positive film for street work is certainly a discipline to sharpen one’s technical skills; or sends one nuts very quickly.

However, and as part of learning the new Fuji camera, I made a mistake with this particular shot. When I got onto the train - (Soft/Diffused Fluorescent Lighting) - I should have switched the Film Simulation to “Velvia”, instead of leaving it on “Provia” which I was using outside for the city street shots. Velvia would have given more punch and bight for a JPEG SOOC in the softer train lighting. (Please see my comments below).

Yes. Hand held. No Flash. Basically it is very VERY close to the JPEG SOOC.

As mentioned above, a JPEG SOOC is my aim with this camera. But this particular shot required a bit more sharpening and also a bit more punch to the colours and contrast. I also noted that the Auto White Balance was a tad ‘incorrect’ for my liking, though do I think that would have been ‘corrected’ if I had switched the Film Simulation” to “Velvia”. (I have been capturing JPEG + raw, so for this final image I did in fact use the raw file to make thsoe subtle changes).

Considering the interest shown, I went back to my archives and pulled out the original JPEG file, which is here below with both the EXIF and the In-camera JPEG Processing summaries.

This is the JPEG SOOC ‘resized’ and then ‘saved for web’:

Sharing a Photograph from my newest Camera

    Summary EXIF DSCF0842

    F Number: F/3.2

    Film Simulation: Provia

    Addendum:

As per my previous comment, here is one example ‘Kodachrome for Street Portraiture’:
