    A Night By The Lake

    Here is a photo I captured with my Canon 7D f/22| 1/13sec| ISO100| 21mm.
    CC would be appreciated.

Nice shot Randall. I really like the composition of this shot, however IMO, I would lighten up the stump on the foreground a touch.

There is still quite a bit of room at the right hand end of the histogram to adjust the exposure, if you have the software and experience to do that. Another route to being able to lighten the foreground a bit would be by 'dodging'. Problem is that in trying to lighten up the foreground now, you're going to bring up noise. The other 'problem' is that the histogram shows there are parts of that gone completely to black, so there will be no detail in there to recover.

This is one of those where getting the exposure right at the time of capture will pay huge dividends. If you had, say, given it a longer exposure then the sky would have been brighter, but there would have been some more detail kept in the dark foreground. You could then have taken the exposure back down on the sky and the water and still have the bit more detail in the foreground.

There are the makings of a very good image in there. As Shawn writes, it is a strong composition.

Nice effort, the overall sharpness you'd achieve at f/22 would benefit your image if the foreground held something of interest or was lit well enough to provide emphasis on the stump. If you edit again try to pull some detail out of the stump and possible the grass at lower right.

thank you so much for the feedback. Unfortunately, I lost the original image as well as others I captured on this evening. Feeling a bit low as a result.
