    18-55 canon kit lens with x4 macro lens

    Well...., you got me Kodiak. Found that critter dead and dry on mentioned balcony and
    used it for a couple of (may i say nice) macros.
    Any problems with that?

    Absolutely NONE… whatsoever! You got the right idea… better use a dead one
    than getting too close to a live one! You have got a good shot, haven't you?
