Probably my favorite of all your images made in this style. The composition is a fascinating blend of organized chaos and minimalism. I don't know if it's an accident, but every blossom is connected to something else in at least two points and I think that's the element that perhaps makes order out of the chaos. Absolutely love it!
Love It!
Dazzling. Nicely done.
Absolutely gorgeous! I love this image! (wall hanger)
I do not feel comfortable with the composition!
Maybe because most of the flowers are facing down the frame?
…but it's just me.
I feel great with the light, though!
Travis, you stole my thunder.
Been rereading one of my Harold Davis's books...that technique is going to be next on my agenda.
Not nuts about the arrangement but like the concept a lot.![]()
Well done, and very timely, since we just had a thread on the difficulty of doing flowers with white backgrounds. If you are willing to post some details about how you do this, I'm sure a number of us would find it very helpful.
Re the composition: I agree that it would be better with the flowers not pointing down.
Not sure what you mean by "HDR mode." Do you mean that you shot an in-camera HDR jpeg? And if so, why? Did the scene exceed the dynamic range of the sensor?
Excellent idea; yet i am not sure about the way in which the flowers are arranged; it would have been better if they appeared like a bunch of flowers thrown to the floor by some body than a deliberate two way placement
This image is a beauty !![]()
Thanks for all the comments. Mike, I did originally have the flowers separated but it looked too disjointed and chaotic. I did intentionally arrange the flowers to come in contact with at least one flower or stem.
As for the setup..I placed a large negative lightbox on my studio floor with my tripod boom set directly overhead. Using this technique previously I have only used the ambient room light but I found I had to greatly increase the exposure in Lightroom. For this series I used two diffused lights from the back and one almost directly overhead to increase the lighting on the flowers from the top. Shot in AV mode @ f5.6 Canon SL1, Sigma 35mm ART lens (which by the way hasn't come off my camera in three months).
I always shoot a few HDR shots when I shoot just for the heck of it. This one worked. I have some from this series that were not shot in HDR that are pretty good also.
Here's another non HDR.

IMO non HDR looks more natural and nicer Travis![]()
Hi Travis,
I loved the first image, but I love the 2nd image a little more. Gorgeous!
It certainly made me stop and study it...![]()
