    Obey the signs!

It's legal in Norway to camp in open fields, beaches, and just about anywhere that isn't occupied or cultivated, so I wasn't surprised to see the tent. On the other hand, I was surprised to see its owner's admonishments written on the wall of rock.

I added a final phrase to my text that might make it easier to notice the signs.

I didn't pick up the message at first either. Obviously the owner has encountered some campers that have a different view of sanitation than he / she does...

That does remind me of a rather opposite experience on a trip to Tibet about 10 years ago. We staying at a "hotel"; on Lake Nam Tso. When we arrived after a long trip on some terrible roads (got two flat tires on the way), we asked where the washrooms were. The answer; "anywhere you like". Needless to say, we did a lot of looking at the ground in front of us as we walked.

Could they not have found something a bit softer on which to pitch the tent?

Well seen, Mike. A documentary image.

Manfred's story reminds me of my first night in Morocco in 1990. Before going to sleep in the one-room building, the only building at the campground, I asked if there was a place to get a hot shower the next morning. "Sure," I was told, and the guy pointed to an area that was so dark that I couldn't see anything. I got up the next morning, threw a towel over my shoulder, grabbed my overnight kit and went outside to find the hot shower. It was a large metal thing mounted about ten feet in the air holding the water with a pile of firewood underneath it. Needless to say, I passed.

My guess is that they had a sleeping pad that was soft enough. Only a guess.

I changed the image to black-and-white. The "messaging" is more noticeable, not just because the bright orange tent distracted our eyes from the writing on the rock but also because I was able to make the rock darker, more like a blackboard, and still look natural.
