Steven...those are stellar images of butterflies. You might, however, be better served by toning down
the luminance levels of the flowers as they pull the eye from the main subject. Great shots though.

Hello Steven: These are amazing images. I agree with chauncey that the flowers are a tad too bright but I'm sure that can easily be adjusted. The pose is Number 3 is my favourite. How close were you to this fellow? Everytime I try to capture a butterfly, it flies away before I can get a decent shot.

Beautiful captures. I can't get the full exif. What was your aperture? I agree that #3 is the best, but they are all good. I agree with Chauncey that I would pull down the luminance of the flowers. I'd also dodge the wings in #1 a little bit; they are darker than the background around them.

I am not an expert on butterflies but, I have found that baiting with a small drop of honey will help
keep bugs occupied during a shoot.

Beautiful captures. I especially like #3 for the pose. I've yet to capturing one that stays put long enough.

tks Suzan, but I cannot really tell how far I was from them. Maybe 2 or 3 feet away

Dan, all the above pics are shot with different aperture. They are between f/2 - f/7.1

I should try this. Beats hoping they would land on the flower that you are waiting on 8)

Nice captures! unfortunate for me, butterflies are in short supply near me. Just aren't much around except for the small white ones.

Beautifully coloured set of butterflies Steven and I agree a very very slight tone down.

What lens were you using? I assumed you were using a macro lens, which would require that you be much closer. If you were using a telephoto, did you have to crop a lot?
