I'm usually quite cautious in deviating from 'rules' such as 'make sure your verticals are vertical'. But sometimes you've got to live out-on-the-edge, let your hair (if you have any left) blow in the wind, be a free spirit and go with feels right rather than what is right.

That's about as racy as it gets around here!

Anyway, it's not all vineyards in Burgundy.

Sometimes a centrally located subject is the only way to present an image. Not sure if the penned in area is necessary except to show the vast landscape surrounding the shelter, you could just as easily fill the frame with the shelter and let the far away horizon serve as a backdrop. Nice conversion.

Have to agree with those racy thoughts of yours Donald (you old devil). This works well I think and the conversion is very nicely done. I wonder would it be worth cloning out that white thing on the left hand side ? Or am I being too conservative ?

Good conversion as always and the comp is nicely on the diagonal. For me, deviating from the vertical/horizontal can sometimes add a dynamic to something that otherwise feels static. I think that is the case here. Good image Donald.

Now that you've explained what it is, it does add a bit of weight to the image, plus the diagonal road serves well as a leading line.

A couple of interesting points, not just about this image but more generally.

I knew what it was and it made perfect sense. But I was there .. and I was also drawing upon childhood experiences when we did the same thing on our farm.

The point is we should always be remembering that all the potential audience is going to have as reference is exactly what you portray in your image. So, if something like this could cause confusion, we need to make it clearer what it is, or not include it.

Good lesson to have learned.

The image is strong and works well except for the vignette in the upper left corner. It pulls the eye and looks unnatural. I'm in favor of the vignette Donald, but perhaps more balanced to the one in the lower right?

The lovely thing about having the Elements XX plug-in is that Silver Efex Pro 2 can be used as a Smart Filter. So, all I have to do is go back in and 'Edit' on SEP2, tweak that vignette and save it again. So easy. I don't have to start all over again as we used in the old days ... about 12 months ago!

Hope I'm not too late to this party to add my two pennies worth. To me, the main and most interesting subject is the shed. The bathtub is very white and pulls the eye toward itself. You might try cropping off the left side beginning just to the right of the bathtub. It would then be a stronger composition because there is nothing to distract the viewer.

All you folks have been fooled by an imposter posing as Donald. This can't possibly be his photo because it has far more contrast and rich black tones than he normally uses.

I wonder if I'm the only one who sees this image as a pair of subjects -- both in the shape of cubes with one open side though with the bathtub playing a supporting role to the shed. Accordingly, I like the strength of the bathtub.

The dark area of the top left corner pulls my eye away from all the other delicious parts of the image.

Thanks for commenting Mike (look forward to seeing images from your trip to the far North). I was probably too soaked in good Burgundian wine to notice the contrast levels!! Either that or still in shock from seeing some of the price labels.

It was a difficult shot because of the contrast. I wanted to hold onto detail in ther shadow area inside the shed. It would have been very easy to shoot it and allowed that to go black. I did do some work in post-processing, with Viveza, to put soem light into that area of the image.

I have gone back in and edited the master copy to tone down that vignette up in the top left.
