    Grand Canyon at Desert View

Took a drive up to the Grand Canyon yesterday. I visited 2 spots I've never been before. I took a ton of photos and felt like sharing these 3. I think they came out pretty well!

The glare from the sun obstructs too much of the scene.

Hi, Zak. GC is a special place that can't be explained to those who haven't seen it first hand.

These images are a little different than what's typically shot. My first impression was that they aren't my cup of tea. Maybe due to my preconception of what GC images "should be". So in an attempt to provide useful C/C, I studied them for a while trying to determine why I had that initial reaction. I think as presented here the grandeur of the canyon doesn't come through for me. On the other hand the sunset doesn't contain really brilliant color. So the image is neither nor.

    Just one old fool's opinion.

I can see what Dan is saying, but I believe the Hopi Tower is the subject; that said I think I'd trim the LHS of #3 by about 20% to lose most of the Northern side but keep the Colorado to give an impression of the depth.

The 3rd is my favourite but 2 is great as well. The composition of 3 is what really makes it.

Very nice Zak, when posting try hitting the return button 2 or 3 times, this will space your images out

Thanks, Kyle. I like the second one best but I think it's great how many people like the 3rd one. It's beginning to grow on me.

Thanks for the opinion. I wish I could have captured it the way the "pros" do but these images are actually 30 images stitched together for each completed image. I don't have a wide angle lens yet so I have to take enormous panos to get the whole canyon. If I had added more sky and gone further left or right, you're talking an additional 15 images or so. My computer was taxed a lot with these so I'm glad I didn't overdo it. Thanks for the honest opinion though.

I'm jealous of your location! I took a road trip with my wife a few months after got married and we visited Yosemite, Mono Lake, Death Valley, Grand Canyon and a few other locations - unfortunately only with a little point and shoot and little camera knowledge. Still, it puts views like yours here on the top of the bucket list.

I'd visited GC before and I'll never forget my wife's face when we drove up to the car park on the south rim and she got her first view of the place. The scale and beauty of it slams you right in the face!
