Minimalist Branches (Mono)

Don't have much to say about this image, I just know that I like it and wanted to get some opinions from the wise folks here at CiC.



Oh, and if you could help me with a title that would be great too! I have been pondering what this image is about and how to express it in words for a couple of days now with no luck

What made you take the photograph, choose the settings you used? What was the first thing that came to your mind when you saw the scene?

I'm going to respond even though you did say you were leaving that to the "wise folks". At first glance I wanted more to look at. As I continued to gaze I felt myself slipping into a comfortable meditation. Ya' musta' done something right! I'm calling it Shane's Koan.

I like the mono treatment, Shane, grey on grey works well for this composition. When I first looked at it, I thought it might need a wispy cloud in the upper left sky, but I am not sure if that would add or detract from the emotion of this scene.

After studying the form of the branches - the outstretched arms, if you will - I would call it "Embrace"

I'm not using a monitor that should ever be used to seriously review photos, so I'm writing this post to ensure that I'll see the thread once I have a decent monitor available to me.

I liked the interaction between the branches and the shape/line of them against the plain sky. As far as PP goes, I am trying to stay away from a real high contrast image that looks stark in its presentation as the bare branches feel quite graceful to me.

Having written that, and seeing some of the other suggestions maybe a title of "Last Dance"?

Mike, I will look forward to your take on the image when you are back to a "decent" monitor.

I like the title "Last Dance" because I can see the trees as a couple dancing, and because they are so are so stark it seems like the perfect choice or a title. Nice image - beautifully photographed. I love the colours and the mood.

I like the grain and light interaction. Did you try a tighter crop so the tree is more dominant and the structure can be seen? The image is about the light and grain, I think it needs to be fully in the face of the viewer.

Shane's title is what I would use. The larger tree is the male holding the more slender female form at a bit of an angle

I like it but I'm not wowed by it as I am by so many of your photos. I think you can center the image because the lines of the two trees are asymmetrical and interesting enough to prevent the centered composition from seeming static. In addition to cropping tighter for the reason Trevor mentioned, I would also try a very slight (very, very slight) vignette, possibly a lighter rather than a darker vignette but probably a darker one.

Although it's a well composed and pp imaged, it did not draw my emotions into it.
I would have added a bit of blur to it

Thanks you Christina, Trevor, Mike and Steven. I apologize for the late response but life has been a bit hectic in my world and my attempts at squeezing in a new edit base on your comments wasn't really working.

I can see the merits of a closer crop and a tad more contrast so will try to incorporate those ideas and see how it works. The good news is that I am off for a longish trip to the mainland starting tomorrow and should have some time to work on this image and take some new ones over the next few weeks The bad news is that my internet connectivity might be limited but I will check in when I can.
