    Lightroom Map

I have recently signed up to Lightroom CC. Does anyone use the Map feature? I have downloaded Geotag Photos to my phone, and tried it, It seems to work! I can import a GPX file and get position data in the EXIF.

I'm hoping that it will cure me of "Wherediditakeit" syndrome. I would be interested in others with similar experiences.

    Hi David.

I received a GPS adapter for Christmas. If you follow the link you will find few response made at the time. Warning the "Wherediditakeit" syndrome is replaced with "Whydiditakesomanythere" syndrome.

Actually I take lots of photographs for real estate work and I find the mapping very useful and surprisingly accurate. Last week I took a number of tagged photographs in a large avocado orchard and lightroom map showed me the positions to the nearest tree.

    Use it a lot.
I have several gps units - however I find the cheap garmin unit very sensitive - even to the extent of going round a National Trust House and having a trail as I moved from room to room.
Just make sure you have the camera time correct to the second - set it from the gps unit. I have a directory for the gpx files on the same drive as my image files.
Now the great advantage of the map mode of lightroom is that though it will place where you were when you took the images, (as other software will do) with lightroom you can drag the markers to what you photographed. Then let google look up what and where the image is of.
The one advantage of using camera GPS is that it may record the direction you were looking when taking the photograph.
The lightroom map option also allows you to tag images without the gpx file, just by placing images on the google earth map. So even scanned film images can easily be tagged.
I find it saves many hours of indexing work.

    Re: Lightroom Map

The map functionality is probably the only feature of Lightroom that I really like and use. I have the Nikon GPS-1 unit that I use a lot when I am on the road and the data recorded by it is embedded in the image files.

The only issue that I have with the software is that the "reverse geotagging" feature is not particularly robust and it will sometimes get the location of the shot quite wrong.
