    Port glasses doing gymnastics

I wonder if you have any idea how difficult it is to get handmade glasses to stand straight when they're stacked like this. I didn't until I tried it.

    Precariously beautiful!

Truly, absolutely exquisite! Another of my all time favourites of your images, perhaps the favourite. I adore the gorgeous colour, mysterious shadows and delicate highlights. And the creative composition

Thanks, Christina! The stack was actually very stable. It was standing like that for several hours. Glad we didn't have an earthquake.

I too am glad that you didn't experience any earthquakes! First and foremost because I would love to see more of these glass gymnastic events.

As a professional Mariner I use the port wine reference to explain/remind tinhorns which side gets which color light!

Typical example: "What color light goes on the port side?" Answer: "Do you know what color port wine is?" Response: "red." The conversation continues: "Right. Red light goes on the port side. That's how you remember. Green is starboard."

"Okay..., um, so which side is port?" This is about the time I consider jumping overboard!

Nice shot Mike! Museum wax will help stabilize your instability! Cheap and effective.

    Thanks, John!

Thanks also for the tip about the museum wax, Terry. Never heard of it. Anything that can be bought for $5.49 is worth having at Makeshift Galactic HQ, right?

I hope your method of explaining stern and bow to tinhorns such as myself is better than your method of explaining port and starboard.

Nice colours, Mike. Now, if I were trying to arrange glasses like that (and I use the word 'trying' deliberately) I would have one odd one out. eg maybe have one in the 2nd row upside down - or if there were a broken one... with the stem intact but a sizable piece missing from the side...

I like that idea, Greg. I have no idea if the stack would remain stable, but I promise to find out. I hope that doesn't lead to your next idea:

or if there were a broken one... with the stem intact but a sizable piece missing from the side...

Nicely done, Mike...I thought thick bottomed glasses are easier to stack than thin bottomed ones...have you tried stacking thin bottom based wine glasses while slightly drunk? I bet that will be more fun...

Thanks, Nancy, but there are only six of them.

Seriously, are gymnastics still scored on a 10-point scheme? When watching the most recent Winter Olympics, I noticed that the scoring system of one of the competitions had changed in recent years.

Just catching up. Well done, Mike. Great vision to see the possibility in the first place.

I'm glad you edited this Mike! I was getting ready to fling myself over the side! Jeez! Landlubbers!

I'm using THIS STUFF at the moment and its doing the job for me, but MGHQ shouldn't be without some kind of wax to fix all that broken glass laying around!

I was really hoping that you didn't see that I had made the mistake in the first place. I really am a true landlubber.

I see that the museum wax you use is advertised for "wacky-tacky" needs. I have to admit that that description applies to me on many more levels than I would like to admit.
