Completely the opposite, as proven by your revision. The revised version solves all of the issues mentioned in the thread and does so very tastefully.

The only issue now is that your revision introduced a bright halo in the background of the uppermost rock formation. Get rid of that halo and you've got a superb wall-hanger.

Thank you Mike... seeing your images , i find myself always trying to look for your comments as yours are just immaculate when it comes to cleanliness and perfection, and then trying to improve on my images... i will play around again with my image and bring the Refine edge a little more closer so i dont get the halo.

I actually won my first phot comp in a mag here in South Africa because of this site. I started Photography a year ago and found that by pushing myself to everyones standards on this site has always helped me improve. I'm not saying my image would"ve won most competitions, but it got noticed in a valid magazine, and by a pro photgrapher and thats what really makes me grateful, considering i am a barber LOL!!!!! So believe me, all comments are helpful on this site, good or bad everything helps to better one as a photographer.

I think your got the balance just right Claudio.

The clouds no longer overpower the rocks and the sea, yet still are a major factor in the image. Well done!

Surely your mother taught you that it's not nice to brag. Seriously, I can't imagine anyone guessing that you've been doing this stuff for only a year. Really amazing!

Really a nice image, Claudio. The reworked version is much improved IMO. Congrats on the contest. It is amazing that you've only been shooting for a year. You obviously take is seriously. Nice job.

YES! That is now a very, very good image, in my opinion. As others have commented, on the basis of this work, you are too modest in assessing your abilities. This, I think, is high quality B & W photography.

Nice adjustment Claudio, and congrats on the recognition...keep at it, realizing your full potential as a photographer is just like making diamonds, all it takes is time, and pressure.

She did...my wife too.. they worse than me though!!! to be honest, i'd like to open a post and really get all you Cambridge in colour people to enter more!!!! Its the same as getting critique and putting our images in comp, its not about what we win, its about people looking at our images and saying wow, i want to get a pic like that..thats exactly how i felt, and feel when i see all your images, its only because of this site that i feel more confident in trying this. Trully, its not about the prize.

This site and the people on this site improve and inspire me.

That's more like it Claudio. That's now a really nice image. Don't think it's only starters that improve as result of this site, we all do.

    Hi Claudio,

    A stunningly beautiful image! Congratulations!

PS I adore all of your landscapes and bugs but I just haven't had as much free time to comment as much as I would like to.

That's an improvement on an already good image Claudio, nice one. I'm still at the stage of hoping to find that 'Auto convert to B&W' function that works well but no luck yet

And congrats on the competition win, these things help to give us a feeling of accomplishment that makes the learning curve effort feel worthwhile.

That'll never happen, at least not to any reasonable degree of consistently producing high-quality images.
