Wild Horses of the Red Desert

Hey all. I'm going to share some wild horse shots. Keep in mind that these were heavily cropped due to my lens limitations at the time. Wild horses are one of the things that amaze me in Wyoming because where I am originally from (Ohio) we don't have anything like it. I hope you enjoy my little corner of the West.

I just love Wyoming...been there many times in the past, mostly summers and one winter. It was the winter that put me off going there. But that is beside the point -- seeing these is a reminder from my past. It is very nice...

Yeah... winter is not a fun time here and lasts for half the year. We got our first snow in September and it just snowed last week, and will probably snow again in May. Its taken 2 years for me to get used to this place. I still miss the green grass and forested acres of home (near Cincinnati, OH) but Wyoming grows on you.

Nice images, showcases the hilly countryside more than the animals.

Love the first, especially - the discrete forms of the horses against that chewy-textured rolling background make it striking for me.

I was trying to think of how to describe the characteristics until I saw Mark's post. He says it all.

I'd really like to see a larger image of this.

I really wish I had a larger image. I believe that this was taken with my kit lens and I had to crop heavily to get this. It was the largest herd of wild horses I have ever seen. Well over 100 horses. Usually herds are anywhere from 3-15.

I'm with others on this - image number 1 is the winner. Was not aware of a herd in SW Wyo. Are you in the Rock Springs area? And, while I shoot mostly in color, I think there is nothing like monotone for stunning views. This one is very nice.

    Thanks for sharing.

I like them both, but I am partial the lighting in the 2nd. I like the way the sun is lighting on the herd while the foreground and background are in shade.

Absolutely beautiful. I adore both images but prefer the colour image for the sheer beauty of the scene and colours.
