Re: A Very Pleasant Evening
WoW! I like the myriads of colour spread on your shot here, specially the backlit of the sun on the horse's tail. Even the little lotus at the bottom completing the shot crying for attention. Lovely.

I'm really liking the colours on this one. The yellow on the horse's tail is great. Very nice shot!

Re: A Very Pleasant Evening
An excellent composition John! The only thing I might have been tempted to do would be to move the left just enough to get the ship off center a little bit. Great capture!

Re: A Very Pleasant Evening
Nice one John. What stands out the most for me is the lack of shadows in the right 2/3's of the frame, which makes the horse look 'flat'. Metering when the subject is between the camera and the sun is tricky, no doubt, it's easy to end up with your subject in silhouette and having to squeeze out the details in post. There are much more experienced shooters here that maybe can elaborate on exposing and using fill-flash to compensate for compositions like this...

Re: A Very Pleasant Evening
Thanks all for your comments. You only seem to get this sort of sunset off the west coast. Robert, not sure about the shadows. If I read you right, I can only think that they are hidden by a combination of some foreshortening from the zoom and the undulations in the ground. Bit of a puzzle.

Re: A Very Pleasant Evening
Lovely. Much to like. It's one of those successful shots that brings the word "painterly" to mind but I can't put my finger on why...
