Leslie...both are nice images and converted well. I would try to get more detail in the darker areas, statue/buildings in the first picture, and the darkened area in the church.

I like no.1 as is Leslie. The contra Jour is quite effective but I do agree that the shadows in the second image could do with a slight lift. Two nice images though.
