Nice depth of field. Not much you can do with the leaf, I think the leaf is a separate study to pursue. Were the white fibers visible prior to post processing or is that an effect of sharpening?

Is it possible to see the original shot, Brian, so as to work out what your options might be?

With this image, it might be possible to careful go over the problem area with a Blur brush.

For me, you have overdone the editing there, Brian. Both colour/brightness and sharpness.

The original is good. Sharply focused with natural looking colours.

Difficult to work on a low resolution image but I have tried a simple crop and slight sharpening (unsharp mask 100 radius 1 threshold 1) without anything else. Possibly a very slight bit of extra brightness could be added but I'm not sure it is needed.

If you wanted to give it a little bit of an extra boost I suppose you could try a small amount of LCE but it is so easy to overdo this effect. Possibly something around unsharp mask at amount 20 radius 30 and threshold 1.

    What do other people think?

For sharpening, I drew a selection around the spider, just outside the required edges and feathered the edges by 12 pixels. But I am using a drawing tablet and a reasonably steady, although not artistic, hand; which does make this sort of thing a lot easier.

I think the problems lie in trying to compensate using PP techniques the loss of image quality caused by enlarging something beyond what is really possible.

The original is fine and can be be 'finished' with the most basic standard PP procedures.

So the consensus seems to be; way to much coffee before pp. You would think that as a practicing Buddhist I would understand and apply the 'middle way' concept just a little bit better.

Geoff the idea of feathering around the edges with a tablet is intriguing but with my hands it will not happen.
