Not behind a train
in the States these used to be behind every train. They hauled workers, the brakeman and some tools. They gradually disappeared and are very rarely seen (except in some one's yard). They are used as playhouses, guest rooms etc.

Re: Not behind a train
My ex-brother-in-law in Ballarat (Australia) is a train enthusiast. He bought an old train from the yard sale and made a room with an ensuite on two carriages and another carriage holds his garden equipments. They are vey useful and functional and beautiful in any garden settings.
