Something without snow
Now I do like the winter and the snow makes for some great images, however I could do with something with a warmer feel to it. So I processed one from last July taken at sunset in Sandbanks Provincial Park down in Prince Edward County, the colours are a little warmer than what we are getting at this time for year.
Cheers: Allan

Re: Something without snow
Nice shot Allan - spring is coming; although winter still has a bit of a kick left.

Hi Allan, they say a foreground object is good for landscapes but I think that log in the foreground doesn't work well in this sunset shot.May be it is because the log's right end is very thin and sharp.May be you can do something about it in PP,but let's see what the other members will say
I like the scene except for the log's shape.

10 Celsius would be a welcome reprieve. Nice image.

Fantastic photo! I do agree with Binnur, I think the photo could be better without the log.

Re: Something without snow
Quite nice. Very much like the reflection/textures in the sand.

Beautiful image. I like the log because leads my eye to the sun and also the gorgeous colours you captured. (And also because it looks a little like a crocodile or a big snake)
I also think this image looks beautiful with just a little less sand in the foreground. Cropping just a bit below the log seems to place more attention on the gorgeous light and colours. And also the beautiful shoreline and curvatures of the sand. (for me)

Re: Something without snow
I feel your pain. By this time of year I am completely tired of snow and cold. And we still have another month of snow and then a further month of Mud Season; no grass or flowers and everything dull brown.
I vote for the image as is. I like the detail in the sand and the log is a nice touch.

Re: Something without snow
Very nice, Allan. I think the snail trails, or whatever they are, work well in the foreground.

Re: Something without snow
I am with Trevor.. and Christina (for the most part). I like the capture in its wholeness. Whatever you do, don' remove the log nor lessen the foreground. They are an important feature of the scene as it is.
Trevor, we still have two more weeks of winter on and off, then we'll be complaining of mud trails on the deck and the artsy nose and paw painting our doggies are so very fond of doing on the glass door. Rain will soon wash those off but not for long. Then we'll be complaining of too much heat...at the moment it is a battle of two days summer and one day of rain. The scenery above is a glimmer of hope for us who are now sick of the snow. Really nice, Allan.

Re: Something without snow
Hi Allan,
Aside from the slight tilt, which can be fixed now.
If you'd like yet another opinion on the shot composition (given that you can't do anything about it now), let me know
However, it is a nice shot,

Re: Something without snow
Well done, Allan. The opinions regarding composition expressed so far are different from viewer to viewer, as I would expect. That's a good indication that there is nothing fundamentally "wrong" with the composition.
What made the sky so dark on the left side? I'm guessing you used a polarizer filter, which would create that effect at your 17mm focal length. That dark area is distracting for me.

Natural effect sounds imaginative, Allan Short.
