    Tete a Tete

Some of the tiny daffodils are out and I wanted to create a pun on the tete a tete. Tried various backgrounds, but decided on the yellow and then tried the photo stacking technique - thanks Isabel and Terry for your encouragement to give this a go....

So here is the result - thoughts on improvements welcome. And particularly, do you think I should have stacked the whole flower rather than just the trumpet ? and should I get ride of the green stems - I find them a bit distracting but can't decide if they are needed to give context.

    Tete a Tete

    Thanks for looking

Very nice. I'd clone out the stem.

For starters, you did a very good job. I am with John, cut the green stem at the bottom. How about a subtle blue BG? Blue and yellow goes together well...just a thought..

That's it....the stems are going !! My husband agreed too.

Isabel, I tried a blue background but couldn't get any shadows - maybe it was the medium I was using (artists paper) ?

    Hi Kaye!

Great shot and nice job on it. As an opinion, and only as an opinion, I think I would have continued the stack far enough to at least get the pistil/stamen (that's right! I looked the darn things up!) on the right side in focus. Maybe a couple more shots would do it.

A late vote to lose the stems just to make it appear a bit more abstract and less grounded.

So how many shots did you end up stacking?

    Hi Kaye,

Lovely image! I like the faded petals and sharper center portion, and agree with the everyone that losing the stems, and think that cropping just a wee bit off the very bottom darker green portion of the stems would work very well.

    Kaye,

Very nice and good choice of complimentary background. Perhaps just slightly more DoF in the stack to give equal sharpness to the stamens/thingys but this could have been achieved possibly by ensuring the two flower heads were on the same plane to the sensor, something worth spending time on when setting up.

As for the stems what's distracting is the change in DoF and possibly shadow half way along their length, if you could sort that I would say leave them as it makes the arrangement look more natural.

A good example of where limited controlled DoF can make for a more interesting image than everything sharp in my humble opinion.

Thanks for the comments. Terry it was about 6 images and I admit I concentrated on getting the rim of the trumpet sharp and missed the stamen on the rhs - ggrrr. I will try without stems as the larger daffodils come out. The change in shadow is purely natural as the flower head morphs into the stem.
