Re: Autumn Storm
Great cloud formations. They might need more contrast if the storm is to look more menacing.

Re: Autumn Storm
Will this be a good candidate for B/W? Just asking...

Re: Autumn Storm
Hi Greg,
A very nice idea. I like this kind of shot.
Beautiful dramatic clouds. Maybe a tad too blue. In landscapes like this I am looking for a little depth in the image. Foreground, middle ground and then the clouds. Including something in the foreground to give it depth will not distract attention from the clouds, as long as the clouds cover most of the picture.
It is worth while experimenting with Manual WB settings to capture images like this. If you turn up the kelvin setting on the camera those clouds become much warmer. Shooting with added contrast and more vivid colors will also render an image with more impact (it also helps to lose some of the haze in a landscape).
It is scenes like this where you really need a very wide angle lens.
There are many ways of rendering this image and it is still what you want to see in it that is most important to you.

Re: Autumn Storm
Bobo, Hui, Izzie, Clive, Andre : thank you all for viewing and commenting.
Izzie, I tried it in b&w and it did bring out a bit more detail in the clouds, but I much preferred the bluish tones of the original. Although, the sky was steely blue-grey, the image has picked some extra blue when posted here.
Bobo, thanks for the tip. I was concentrating on preserving the colours in the clouds and didn't think to add a bit of contrast to them.
Andre, I agree about foreground and middle ground. However I was shooting from the top of a hill and the only thing between me and the distant shore was open water.

Re: Autumn Storm
Thanks William. Following Bobo's tip, I decided to rework it to put a bit more drama in the clouds. Maybe too much?
