Snowy landing

Back from semi-off the grid visit to my beloved northern Adirondacks. I'd like some suggestions as to what might take this image further down the path to better.
This Ferry crosses Lake Champlain from Vermont to New York, ice not withstanding, and its open water path is a boon for all the frozen-out waterfowl.
C&C would be most appreciated.

Not much I would change, perhaps the angle of view (lower) could be examined. What was the sky/seascape like from your vantage point, was it as overcast as it looks, was there any sign of blue sky?

Overcast... this is heavy snow, on a deep gray day. All turns to white-out about 50 yards beyond the ferry. I tried to bring up the snow, which you can make out against the darker backgrounds of the pilings and lower hull of the Ferry. It is telling to me that this did not come through for you.

Hi Mark,it is a nice photo. I'm new into PP,so I can't make detailed comments on PP.It seems a bit too bright to me,would decreasing brightness and increasing contrast help?

Mark - perhaps you could consider a 7w x 5h crop with the middle post on the 'third' line.

Try a more panoramic crop to just above the antennae on the ferry. As well, do a bit of a curve adjustment pulling the midtones down to darken the pilings a bit.

I can definitely see the snow.

Brilliant image by the way. The stormy image is far superior to the day one. Massively more evocative.

Although I like all three of them, the edited last one brought your story out some more...I was feeling the cold with the very first one that is why I like it in the first place.

Just to say that I think the first image (and the crop) is beautiful. I love the composition and how you framed the boat with the posts, the soft colours, and just how you captured the beautiful scene.

Steve... it was only about 20F, but your right about the ducks - imagine - they probably hang out in the 32F water, 'cause it's warmer than the air!
Christina - your lovely complement much appreciated. I've been taking that Ferry, or one of its predecessors, for more than 60 years, and happily, so I had some feelings I hope came through in that shot.

I much prefer the first one, and feel the crop edition way too severe. The wider view shows more of the snow and cold and makes it much easier to imagine the cold and bluster. We see scenes similar to this here in Western New York; no ferry, but lots of boats and ships in Lakes Erie and Ontario before Erie freezes. And btw, I could see the snow clearly and recognized it for what it is immediately.

Thanks for you comment, Zen. I appreciate it. It's about even on the cropping. The first one was done shortly after capture and reflects how I felt about what I saw, and may work better for those who see lots of snow - like you. But the second has merits and may be a more clear story for those who were't there.
