Images of a Guatemalen girl sitting on a window sill

This girl was sitting on a window sill as I was wandering up a steep hill (most hills seem to be steep here) in San Marco la Laguna.

I'm getting used to that. We went to a small village (where I shot the pano of Lake Atitlan) and they get very few foreign visitors, and the school kids followed us around yelling "Gringo!".

Had a similar experience in Ethiopia late last year, where the word for caucasian foreigner is "ferengi".

I thought you'd like that. In India I had a boy curse me for photographing his goat. Someone told me the child probably thought I was going to steal it.

Looks like the high-contrast paint on the window frame lured your AF system away from the young lady in the second shot. Still, she conveys wisdom beyond her years. I might have tried a low-angle shot to emphasize her distance from the ground. Regardless, you found a great subject.

First, it is a great scene to capture with all that color. I really like that first one. I like the perspective along with her expression and pose. Beautiful on so many levels.

I like everything about the first one. I would be willing to bet that you make few monochrome images of your Guatemalen photos and this series is a great example.

I've noticed that the older I get, the steeper all hills get.

Nope - just a bad shot. I primarily use spot focus mode and am experimenting with back button focusing, so more than likely that was the issue.

Yeah, the transition is tricky. When I set up tripod shots (rare), back-button focus can be awkward. But on sticks, I normally use manual focus with peaking (Magic Lantern for the win!). Automatic AF point selection drives me insane.

Strange thing, not only do new hills get steeper the hills that I am used to are also getting steeper.

I like the first image of the Guatemalan girl best because Manfred nailed the focus... I might like to see the edges a little darker to accentuate the girl...

I like the first one because it shows the girl in context. It certainly looks like a colourful city. Not just the people's dress but the decorations on the buildings.
