Adjusting Sterile Metering on a Nikon P7700?
Hello, I have a question on the best way to adjust the controls on a Nikon P7700 in order to produce nicer photos. A review of the camera by TechRadar said that "Metering is usually accurate but white balance errs on the cool side. This often leads to slightly clinical-looking, sterile images that lack lifelike appeal. Picture quality lacks the vibrancy for which Nikon's DSLRs are renowned." I've read that comment (or similar) in other places.
Is there an adjustment that can be made to the camera controls so as to modify the photo?

Hi Ken, the metering being accurate refers to the camera's ability to signal the right exposure for a particular scene. If you're in auto this is done for you in that the camera picks the right shutter, aperture and iso sensitivity for the image it sees. The "clinical" comment refers to white balance(WB). WB will determine how colors are rendered in relation to the light source. For example, a normal light bulb is somewhat yellow in reality, whereas other light sources have their own tinge (florescent is green I believe). In short, if this comment is true of your camera you'll need to adjust your camera's white balance on occasion to compensate or do it in post processing. You'll likely get many more comments below but for now I'd recommend reading this link https://www.cambridgeincolour.com/tu...te-balance.htm

The P7700 has RAW formatting so if you do any post processing you can adjust WB to your liking later. When viewing images on the LCD, you should be able to tell if the colors are off, however the LCD is showing you the jpeg image not the RAW.

The P7700 manual seems to be quite complicated for me. Perhaps this is due to the fact that so many procedures which I normally do in post processing, is done in-camera with the P7700.
I always suggest that a photographer shoot in RAW and then after RAW conversion do all editing in a post processing editing program.
Then the photographer, not the camera has control of the capture and final product...
