Thanks John I kept waiting hoping he would look at me. (I was lying in tall clump of grasses) Finally I whistled, and he took off. they almost always look at me if I whistle but not this guy.
James,
That is a superb shot, great use of DoF and wonderful background.
MUST be opened in lightbox to fully appreciate it.

Thank you Grahame! That means very much to me coming from you. When I got home and saw how much of the grass stayed in focal plane I got excited. I just wish he would have looked at me and gave me that 2 second chance.
Izzie It had rained right up to dawn that morning and it was a cloudy darker and misty day, so for that reason I will stick to my version.
Oh yea you are right Izzie I did spook him. they have just recently come off their rut and they are much more wary than they were 3 weeks ago.
Hi James,
It's that sharp tall grass and then the OOF background behind it that helps give the overall scene so much impact, apart from the deer of course.
As for PP work I get the feeling there is more potential but can't put my finger on it, I like the lightened deer in Isabel's mod but not the lightened background and sky.
Grahame
I liked the lighter deer and foreground of Izzies.
I like it, less no-where branch. Perhaps a very gentle lightening of the deer.
Very nice, and extra special because of the surrounding scenery.
Great shot. I really like the sense of depth with the background.
I actually like that it's not looking at you. Feels like a more candid photo. A deer just doing what a deer does.
Good point Kyle sometimes I get caught up trying to manipulate a scene, I might be better served to try harder to record the scene provided more accurately. Thank you for commenting.
Thanks Bobo I thought that no where branch was doing no harm but after looking at Izzies version I can see it has to go I will trty and bring a little more light on deer and foreground too.
Thank you Christina.
