    resizing jpg - banding

    Hello Cambridge in colours!

I was out today and I took a few photos. They didn't turn out very well because of some of the filters and I was shooting in jpg instead of RAW (dont ask me why). I wanted to resize the image from 4000 px to 1000 px which created an interesting affect on my computer.

This first image appears to have an insane amount of banding around the sun
    Code:

    However, this one does not
    Code:

I'm just curious to know why that might be

    Hi Snowice0,

The first image is 65kb 1000 x 667 px width which I have posted for you and the second is 248kb 3456 x 2304 kb

I would suggest the resolution is a bit low and for a 1000 px wide image you aim for between 250 to 300KB. But I can not see an 'insane' amount.

Forgot to say welcome to CiC, how about letting us know your real name and nice image.

    Welcome.

If you replace both occurrences of CODE with IMG in the above line, your picture will come up immediately on our screens instead of have to copy the link and paste it in our browsers to see it.

(I put the period. ie full stop in the quote just to make the words show in this post)

I know that but I'm not trying to force people to load a huge image right now

Interesting im not sure why ACDSEE did that. The original file is like 3mb. I'll have to look into that...Oh well

and thanks the community seems rather nice. I'll get right on top of that and look for a place to post my galleries
