Note: Post any image that tickles your funny bone. For me it is usually a nearly photo, but anything goes!

In For the Nab

I was standing on the pier in San Francisco photographing the sea lions with my 70-300mm. There was a child standing nearby with an ice cream cone and the sea gull came out of nowhere and made his move. For those of you familiar with the 70-300mm, it can't autofocus within five feet and as the bird was nearly on top of us, it chose to focus on whatever it could capture. If it hadn't been for the lamppost, the camera probably wouldn't have fired at all.

Hi, Christina. Here is my "nearly" contribution. This Red Hawk was on a tree and I was in a boat, framing it, when he suddenly took off. He was faster than me! Result: A half wing and an out of focus shot.

Also, "just for fun", here is another one. These reminded of UFC fighters, after a match. Even with a smashed face, they hug and compliment each other, like friends!

Unfortunately I normally delete wonderful images like these. I never thought I would have a need to save them, until now!

The difference for me between a "nearly" and a keeper is that only the latter is a keeper. Thus, I have no "nearlies." I rarely shoot anything other than stationary subjects, so I really have no excuse for producing a "nearly" and I'm not about to provide irrefutable evidence that I do so on a regular basis.

Hi Isabel,

Just for fun! Anything that tickles your funny bone. And now that I see that Richard deletes all his nearly photos (I keep mine for sentimental value if it is cute, which means I will save the 2nd image, I posted for a few years, at least)

The idea is to have fun, share the story behind the image and not worry about perfection.

All that said, I am going to edit my first post to say, just for fun, anything that tickles your funny bone which means good pictures that are funny are also permitted, which hopefully means more people will share. For example Bobo has some pretty wild perfect duck shots, and Mike likely has some perfect funny photos somewhere. But of course the lessor quality images are likely funnier.

Here is a decent photo that I think is fun. This photo is of a feral cat that I was feeding.

More Milk Please!

If I ever find my photo of headless flying ducks I will post it.

I have LOTS of almost shots with dogs; for some reason I do keep some. Sort of like a blooper file

There was almost a dog in this shot...

A different kind of miss...

I'm sure if I dig deeper I'd find other almosts that I've kept.

I keep everything I take and occasionally the 'misses' have a use to illustrate something as on the adjacent deer thread. I was indocrinated with the concept of "the precious negative" and now that storage is so cheap ....

What was I thinking??? I do have some that have not been deleted but only because they were from the last shoot and I have not gone through them all yet.

Here goes. All in frame but settings were for a static and way too slow for this sudden take off.

Talking about a throw-away - I had a lot of fun watching my neighbours' puppies playing under our porch steps last summer.
Got some reasonable shots of them, but this one missed the clean-up.
I kinda like the way one puppy is looking at the tail of his playmate - just too bad it's OOF. These guys were not keeping still for one second.

Now that I put in my contribution to this thread, it's heading for the thrash!

You have to admit that if someone tried to capture a shot of a headless fish or duck that it would likely be might challenging!
