today I learned something new. Thanks for the info about the male and female.
BTW, sharp images. The images could be toned down a bit as the highlights are a bit strong or maybe it's my uncalibrated monitor.

These work well.
Just a slight general word of warning though. With a few fly species both males and females have a gap between their eyes. In most of these cases males have straight sides to the gap while females have the gap tapered and it is slightly wider towards the front.
But with the majority of species, the eyes together for males, female eyes apart does work.

Interesting the unexpected things you learn.
These are very nice shots. I'm glad I got past the title and looked at the thread. I almost didn't!
