I warmed this image. is it too much?

I was in tall grass, so I focused on antlers. Tried to minimize my dof to make the background less confusing, but wanted to keep as much detail in foreground grasses to help show environment.(I feel like I might have compromised focus in doing so.) I am interested in any feedback, C&C. will add a sooc in reply. Thank you for viewing.

For me, James, the warmer colour looks good if you want an autumn tint shot. But if a winter scene was required I would go with something closer to the original.

To your query...I like your results and what you did. If ya want perfect WB use the white tufts of ear fur or the nose. Regardless, it looks fine.

Thank you Geoff. I couldn't quite put my finger on it. I took a winter pic and made an autumn pic out of it. I bet I have done that to a lot of pics lately.

Thanks Chauncey. I have another shot of this same deer to do pp on yet, I will check wb first then see how differently I work the rest of the image. the other image doesn't have the dark woodline in it.

I disagree with all of the above posts in reaction to your initial post. My objection to your first image is that it appears warm due to post-processing rather than to light that would have created the warmth.

I think the first thing to do is to establish a reasonably neutral color balance and then establish a warmer color balance if that is your choice. The following two versions indicate what I mean using a calibrated monitor:

Reasonably neutral to my eye (your eye and your monitor may be different)



Warmer (but still natural given all of the lighting details)
