Like a Fish out of Water (Abstract-ish)
I have been sitting on this image for sometime and knew that there was something there but didn't really have a chance to work on it until tonight. Inspiration struck and this is what I came up with...

Your thoughts and impressions would be appreciated.

Very imaginative and creative.
I like how the lines take my eye into the centre of the picture. I think there's a lovely balance and harmony in the colours and tones. It's one of those images that you can look at for ages and continually see something new.
I like it very much.

Very nice! I think only that I would push the sliders to make it a bit more dramatic, but that is strictly personal taste.

Your ability to imagine far exceeds mine. I can imagine this same image in many color palettes, much like a Warhol painting.

Re: Like a Fish out of Water (Abstract-ish)
Thank Donald, Marie and Mike.
I started by converting the image to black and white and then added some textures and color and the idea that I could use the yellows and oranges that are the colors of the fish in reality and I couldn't quite get it 'right'. So I was trying to tweak the colors in the textures that I was using by adjusting the hue/saturation and I got some very odd colors so I just kept experimenting with the sliders until this appeared on my screen.
Marie, I am not to sure what you mean by a bit more dramatic but I took a look at this again this morning and tried to add a bit more punch by increasing the contrast and adding a bit of brightness to the image. Thoughts?

Very nice. The multi-color version as well. I think without the title the viewer would not recognize so easily.

Re: Like a Fish out of Water (Abstract-ish)
Thanks everyone! I'm not sure how large I can print this as it is each panel is the result of a crop and ended up being only 2267 x 1814 pixels (shot with my D40X). I think that it would need to be quite large to be effective on a wall. I have enlarged each panel to 8 by 10 (300ppi) and wonder how they might look printed on individual canvases hung together on a wall? How large to you think that I could make an individual panel it without losing too much IQ?
Also, do you think that the canvas texture in the image would 'fight' with the actual texture of a canvas?

I think it would work to do 4 16x 20 canvas' that would cover a 33x 41 in. area with 1 in. spacing. I guess depending on size of room is how I would determine canvas size. As for the texture clash that might take some more experimenting to determine.

Re: Like a Fish out of Water (Abstract-ish)
My problem with hanging four separate images is that I would never be able to get them straight. Seriously. I'm a total klutz.

LOL Mike! Unfortunately I can relate but also why I am thankful that nails can be replace by the Velcro equivalent in many cases these days
That also helps me hang items on the cement walls that are all throughout our apartment - the alternative requires a drill with a cement bit and nerves of steel and there is no I think it's a bit too high, no, maybe a bit to the left after the hole is drilled in the wall!
The image seemed to enlarge quite well and I am playing with the idea of getting the first one printed on a canvas at Costco right now. It's a $37.99 investment but I have wasted more than that on other 'mistakes' in the past...

Re: Like a Fish out of Water (Abstract-ish)
The order has been placed and I will report back on how it turned out when I receive the canvas in 5-10 business days. I'm thinking that it will be more like 10 days given the holidays but Costco is usually pretty quick (fingers crossed).

I agree with Mike (no mistake). I love seeing photography that has morphed the boundaries of art. This does that very well. Good luck with prints.

Beautiful! I love both versions, perhaps the mulit-colour version just a wee bit more, ie. the one I would hang in my house.
