Nice. She didn't spend too much time regarding your presence.

Phil, it is interesting that here you have taken a picture of a woman. I enjoy looking at your images, and I did notice that 99% are all male? Is that a cultural statement as to the availablity of a street model? Is it not more risky to take pictures of women, or are you known in circles and have latitude to do so?

Just curious. Nice set. I do like them both. Your conversions are stellar, as always.

Thanks Marie. The vast majority of street scenes don't contain women as they aren't present or they are but they're Emirati and it's not culturally acceptable as a man to photograph them. There is one small area which I shoot in which contains women who work in the 'personal hospitality' business, but they're equally unwilling to have their photograph taken!!!

Women from other cultures can be found in malls in the areas that I shoot or, as here, on the metro. I was shooting at 85mm at f1.4 so the girl wasn't sure if I was shooting her directly so I gives me just enough distance

    Re: Waiting for the train

I remember when I was in Dubai and Abu Dhabi there were no women during the day. Most were in full coverings and traveled like wraiths in the night. Then again, in October, it hovered about 110deg, a hot driy heat. When I went at the souq, my escort did my shopping and bargaining for me. I told him what I wanted and he obtained it. I was virtually ignored. As I did not have female family there, I missed that part of the world.

In most places I know, a someone with a camera can clear the women from a building faster than a fire alarm!

    Kinda like:

Fire Alarm: "Ah - probably just a false alarm - can't smell any smoke - better make my way out of here soon or I'll get yelled at though"

Guy with camera: "SH*T - some guy with a camera heading our way - taking everyone's photo - quick quick - everyone get out while you can!"

Phil, great images both. Interesting that they are in the exact same setting and yet the photos are totally different. the energy in the first comes from the girl staring at the camera, in the second, she recedes and is replaced by the woman on the left. Great stuff.
