    Brian,
    Light is very Harsh, that makes one withdraw eyes from the image; i think you can smooth light falling on the subject by using some translucent screen
    The shape of the leaf is wonderful

    For me, they are tending to get lost amongst the foliage. I would slightly crop the bottom and right side.

    I carry my flash smoother outer in my back pocket, my stick in my left hand and my camera in my right. Not sure where i would carry a translucent screen nor how I could put it up without scaring the bugs. Sunlight in the tropics can be harsh and as these pants grow in half shade there is bound to be extreme shadows.

    I could darken things down but then details would be lost?

    bottom crop and the shape of the leaf is lost, top crop and it seems a little tight, right crop moves things into the center. They use the foliage as a way to hide. Perhaps a way to crop in a heart shape but except for Valentines day that seems a bit tacky?
