Damn the Rain! I'm going shooting

Grabbed my Polarizer, camera gear and rain gear, set off to Stevens Pass in the Cascades in search of waterfalls ( you don't have to search very hard here during the rains ) These are from along the Tye river.

I was trying out the StormJacket rain coat for my camera, I will say I did not like it, as it was too flexible and would continually drape down over the back end making getting at controls a pain. it did work out as a "bag" from shoot to shoot. My baseball cap seemed to work great for protecting the polarizer without vignetting.
( 105mm Polarizer was attached to Lee filter holder, so no lens hood )

Nice photos. I agree with Chauncey, #4 is the best.

Very nice series Jon. The lighting has certainly helped to bring those colours out.

Very nice series but 1 and 4 stand out for me.

Just gorgeous! Your images really make me miss the Pacific Northwest.

I like them all but I agree with Nancy about the bridge in #2.

    Have a guess :)

Re: Damn the Rain! I'm going shooting

I like them all, but I do think they'd all benefit from a little output sharpening (probably around 0.3px @ 50% or there abouts would do the trick). I also find your watermark very distracting -- would be far better put into a matte / boarder IMO.

Thank you all glad you enjoyed.

Nancy and Shane, the Bridge/Overlook was actually intentional for those who know me. I have a habit of going around overlook fencing for the "Not Tourist Shot" and once, actually slipped down the face of the cliff only to fall into a crack at the edge of a cliff over a waterfall (pre scouting without camera) What you don't see is that I now use a harness and Climbing rope when I feel the need to go around the rail

Colin, Sharpening Is my achilles heal. I have the Nik program but really struggle with sharpening. Should I sharpen while in Photoshop full version or save out at the web size and apply sharpening then, only on output?

    Thanks Jon

    Hi Jon,

I could write 1/2 a book on it here, but probably best if I refer you to a couple of threads where I've written quite a lot about it in the past - as a starting point for you:

    Sharpening and Noise Reduction Sequence

When/How to Best Sharpen a Digital Photograph

Have a read through these, then we can so from there if you like.

Rather than struggle about whether I prefer #1 or #4, I much prefer to put them on equal standing. Very, very nice!

Excellent photos all of them. I love how sharp they all are. You are one of a killer of a photographer.

Beautiful series, Jon. I really appreciate your exposure control in the midst of the water flow- very easy to get hot spots. These are perfectly done.

Thanks Mike, I'm starting to watch for those hot spots during the shot vs finding them after the fact
