I am sorry I even mentioned sheep

Mentioning sheep in front of Australians was a monumental mistake. The following two photographs were taken last weekend at the same general locations as my sheep and sand shots but no cure is being sought or sheep references required. Other comments most welcome.

The sharpness and depth of field with the resulting three dimensional appearance of these "sheep series" images just blows me away! I've not sorted out how to access the EXIF data of posted images but I would be interested in learning what these were shot with and the camera settings. Oh, and I'm still laughing at the humorous Kiwi/Aussie exchanges; very funny.

Thanks David - the problem with the horizon is a dark band of what I assume is shadow or wind pattern in the water that is running at a very small angle to the horizon. If I was on a yacht I would be trying to get in it to catch the breeze. (So would Ben Ainsley ) On a large scale it can be seen. On a smaller scale it does become a sort of fake horizon. It maybe slightly off but that dark line certainly makes it look much worse.

Andrew thank you for your comments although the I am reluctant to concede that the Aussies are funny - no maybe they are - oops sorry.

Tech Data. Nikon D800, 28-300mm at 56mm, f9, 1/1600sec, iso 400. It was a beautiful day one of the clearest and brightest for some time. About 50Km away in Auckland they had the highest November temperature on record.

Thanks Mike, I may have avoided sheep but they both still have sand. (I suppose you of all people appreciate the importance of sand in a photo even if it is in the form of glass)

As much as I am reluctant to comment, I feel that, in the interests of displaying the objectivity and fair-mindedness for which Aussies are renowned, I should.

Both are nice shots, I like the composition and colours in #1 and the candidness of #2. I could imagine that the first scene would often be hazy so you were lucky to get a good clear day. The D800 seems to do a good job, as you would expect.

Thanks Dave I learn something new every day.

It was a exceptional day - I was camping with a large family group and the forecast the day before we went was for rain - usually when I go camping the weather is dramatically worse than the forecast not better. The dynamic range of the D800 is a great help - I should have got one twenty years ago.

Thanks Clive and Steve. The oyster catcher chick was not doing what it's parents wanted. I think the plan was that the chick was supposed to excape with its mother and the other chick while the dad put on a performance to distract me. It insisted on chasing the wrong parent much to the distress of the mother who was shrieking at it. I grabbed a couple of shots then moved away to leave them in peace.
