Two things jump out at me...it needs better PP and it needs a subject, maybe a boat or water bird.

    Re: Goose Marsh

For me, the trees do make an acceptable focal point, but everything on the right side is slightly out of focus.

This was at F14 so was there too much wind movement for such a low shutter speed?

Maybe a subject that needed two focus points; if possible.

I wonder about cropping quite a bit from the right side and having a different size ratio? For example 3 x 2, which would concentrate more on the trees and reflection.

Hi Chauncey. Let me share my reasoning that addresses your issue of a lack of subject. My image is a type of landscape "where the main subject is a wide view, with its elements arranged into a coherent composition." The subject is Goose Pond. Honestly, I haven't made up my own mind whether what I did works or not.

In terms of my processing, I left things a bit less dramatic to stay true to the light I remembered experiencing that day. Again, I have to admit that I'm not sure whether it works or not.

    Thanks for commenting.

Geoff, I'll try your suggestion. I think the reason I didn't go in your suggested direction is that I wanted to try a wider view. However, I'll look at it again. Thanks.

Geoff, here's a version of your suggestion. I also slightly juiced everything up a bit.

That certainly looks more compact and crisp to me.

Possibly another alternative would be to crop more from the bottom and produce a 3 x 2 ratio?

Quite a few cropping options with this scene I suspect.

Chop the left third off this re-edit and you may have something. Originally I thought you should have stepped a few feet to your right and incorporated something in the foreground but without the left third this is miles better. That might have giot more reflection of the trees in the water instead of the small amount in your photo.

    Hi Karm,

Because I'm trying to learn to post process and I can't explain what I see, a very pretty scene.

I tried an edit, cropping closer, increasing saturation by 10% and adding a soft light gradient of 20%. It looks a little over processed but hopefully another version will be helpful to you... If you don't care for it at all, let me know and I will delete this post...

No Christina, please leave it up. I like your image very much. At a certain point, taste kicks in. No right or wrong.

Here's a further edit on the left side. I don't want to go beyond this point.

I was on a path when I took this shot. Unfortunately, the path had not been cleared for a long time. Most of it was overgrown with few opportunities to take a picture. Next time I go, I'll bring my machete.

    Hi Karm,

Nice to hear that you like my version... = A wee boost in my confidence in post processing. Yes, I like the soft prettiness of this image and the lines of the waterway in your original version.
