Sunrise for the bin or not?

Going through and binning some old images tonight I came across this one and just could not make my mind up.

One of the things that surprised me with it is that it only required a small amount of the 'recovery' slider in ACR to correct things other than the sun itself. I have tried a few crops including the horizon on the centreline but just not sure. I left the amount of water to retain the max width of reflection in the foreground.

Any ideas or anything obvious I'm missing? Shot in Raw ISO200 so plenty of scope.

Sunrise for the bin or not?

If it's one for the bin I will not be offended if you say so

Is there any way ro bring out a little more light and colour in the clouds and sky? Just a bit to overcome the burnt orange cast to the scene.

Seems like a keeper to me. Unless you have one of the same scene that is vastly superior

I really like it, so don't bin it!

Personally I would crop it something like this...

Sunrise for the bin or not?

I did think about taking more off the left, but I quite like those two small islands.

Great shot and thanks for sharing

Beautiful, and definitely a keeper. I like Tommy's crop.

    Hi,

Thank for the replies and encouragement. I generally find it fairly easy and quick to decide if an image is worth working on but this just got me perhaps because I normally prefer sunrise/sunset images with either something in the foreground or a great deal of action in the sky.

    Trevor,

I will do what you suggest to the sky as I had not considered that and very strangely I do not have another of this scene at the same time. As I would have been sat on the beach behind the tripod when I took this I can not understand why I did not take more.

    Tommy,

Thanks for your interpretation, I like the crop and the darker more defined water at the horizon. I'll work on the original today and try and emulate what you have done.

    Bruce, Christina, Cliff and Dave

Thank you all, my minds made up and I'll have an attempt at it and re-post soon.

Well, two hours of work and I managed to get it as close to Tommy's as I could and also tried to brighten up the sky but failed. I was unable to achieve the same amount of clarity in the clouds although pushing the sharpening as high as I could.

Sunrise for the bin or not?

Certainly a keeper I believe now and one to add to the website.

Grahame: Not to throw a wrench into the works, I like your original version with the longer reflected sunlight pathway and the cloud with the slightly blue sky above it to the cropped version. More aesthetically pleasing to my eye

I think you did a wonderful job on the edit, although the colours seem to be richer in Tommy's edit. Sorry I can't be of more help.

    Trevor,

You certainly have not thrown a spanner in the works because after completing my edit and posting I sat looking between the two and thinking about the differences.

My conclusion has to be that with an image such as this there are many variations that could be produced from the original and I may just have another go

    Christina and Nandakumar,

Thanks for the comments, on the next one I'll try and put the title central.

Taking Trevor's view into consideration here's another version and with this one I now remember the rocks to the left.

Sunrise for the bin or not?

One very strange thing I came across whilst adjusting this image was that an increase in saturation in ACR caused the sun to be more clearly defined and I could take it to a point where the outer edge was actually sharp.

I really like this Grahame. I would try to brighten the overall image just a tiny amount, but otherwise I think it's great!

    Hi Grahame,

I think this last version is absolutely gorgeous...
