Self portrait (DOH!!) By myself..DOUBLE DOH!!

Ok all..i dont see anyone doing this on this site but..i saw this in a magazine and thought i'd give it a go..damn, getting great focus on eye aint easy, especially when you're on your own, and taking your own picture!!!!. Any way..this is one of my first goes at portraits..and thought i'd put it in B and W and did the eye in bit o colour..i know, i know..cliche and no one likes it. Still did it

Natural window light , Nikon D5100 tamron 90mm macro lens and wireless remote..did all focusing with string and a pole...DOH!! Shutter speed 1/60 Aperture F/3.2 ISO 100..oh..and i used a home made bounce flash sorta thingy majig for my pop up flash..which worked.

PLEEAASSSEE, ALLLLL comments welcome and greatly appreciated. Im not happy with the ear area

Cliche or not I like what you have done Claudio. For a first effort it is very effective. Having very interesting eye colour helps too! Very sharp focus on your eye and eyelashes. Well done I say.

nicely done, i would like to know more on how you exactly used the pole and string for focus?

Thank you both for your kind comments... its not quite a pole.. i guess you could use step ladder or any kind of stand...u have to mark the spot where our eye will be.. then set your camera up and focus on that spot.. switch to manual.. you need a string going from tripod head to that spot..cut it right there..move ladder or pole(with legs) () and stand in its place..pull string as tight as you had it before..to eye..and let go...press wireless remote..and stay still ..its trial and error..but its worth it once you got it( Check the image the first time..dont touch the focus..rather move yourself when you pull the string. Its reallly tough when your aperture is set at 2.8 or so..but again..worth it

This was with my 35mm lens..F/1.8..with a different look though...you can see how much better it is when just your eye is in focus..

Well done! I like it! I rarely like the use of selective color but it makes the first image work especially well. I would like that one even more if less space was used on the left, though I'm confident that you provided that much space for a reason.

There is nothing wrong with executing an idea that did not originate with you; just the opposite, not taking advantage of all of your resources including magazines would be silly.

as u can see.. can use it for both diffuser and bounce..you just turn it whichever way u want..i tried all ways...natural flash..diffuser..no flash..but bouncing it off low ceiling worked great..in fact...ther is no shadow at all behind me in the image...worked Great... saw this thing made on you tube somewhere.
