    South African Highveld Winter:

This is what it really looks like in winter on the South African Highveld. Dry, hazy and dead!

Seems to me like you have a lot to work with photographically in this environment. Dry tawny grass, skeletal trees, still some green vegetation and, I suspect, nice open vistas. That haze should give you brilliant red light at sunrise and sunset.

Nice image. One question. What is the object below the tree to the left?

I am envious of your winter Want to trade winters?

That haze on the horizon is called ice fog. It is the frozen water vapour in the air and forms below minus 25 C or so.

    Thanks Trevor.

Trevor that thing it is a rock.

No thank you, no trading of winters. South Africans "die" at 5c below zero. We have no idea what a "real" winter is like.
Snow is "exciting" once in 20 years. Although there are parts of SA that do get snow every year.

25 below, how cold is that? At least you need no fridge.

The reason my does not want to move to Cape Town. The cape is like a little baby - if it is not windy it is wet.

    Thanks Christina.

I must get one like that early in the morning when it is still white with frost.
