I'm not too sure yet. We're flying out of Waterloo Regional, and that's about all I know. He had mentioned something about finding a nice place to take me for breakfast, but I'm not sure how far away that might be!

Nice - I imagine there might be some nice shots along the Grand River valley as you get going, although it may not be all that exciting at this time of year. Aerial view of the Toyota plant? As the crow flies, you are not too far from the Lakes either. Have a great flight and we look forward to seeing your images.

A tail dragger is an aircraft that doesn't have a nose wheel (eg Piper Cub, DC3) (Dash-8 on a bad day ...).

Well, that was the most fun I've had in a long while!!

I have some editing to do, so may not get to it until the weekend, but here's the plane I was in. I didn't realize something this small could fly - with humans in it!

I have been following this with interest as I am due to go gliding in New Zealand later this year.

Any special tips for gliders? Clearly vibration should not be a problem, but I suspect that the small cockpit will be and I have resigned myself to a "short" lens.

Well I'm not overly impressed with the images I got. But it was a learning experience, and there are a few things that I'd do differently next time. And, I have a feeling there just may be a next time!

I'm mostly disappointed with the 'hazy' look to most of the photos, due to the early morning fog - in fact, our flight was almost delayed due to fog. I've gone through a couple, here are some, but I'll post more later on when I get some time. It's definitely something that I could get interested in though.

Moral: don't shoot into the sun

Joking aside (well partially joking), you should be able to address some of the issues in PP; a bit less blue and, if you know about Local Contrast Enhancement (LCE), now would be a good time to use it.

You will find that those shot facing one way (relative to the sun) require quite different PP to those shot the other way.

I think that a flight in the middle of the summer is part of the problem; too much moisture / particulate matter in the air. I suspect that if you get out there on one of those frosty fall mornings when the temperature is below freezing, your get a clearer view.

Hi Andrew,

Fog just reduces contrast -- and you can compensate for that to some degree - by using burn tools set to shadow, or raising the black clipping point. Not a cure-all, but it definitely helps.
