    Hoverfly myathropa florea

Spotted this on one of my occasional visits to my local nature reserve. It's against the light and a dark treeline. Very little post processing involved other than cropping. The fill light provided by the white flower heads was a real bonus that I didn't spot until I had it on the computer. Any one spot the second passenger?

Not for almost a minute of looking

A different composition for this kind of subject, ideal when you're not equipped with a macro lens.

The other insect is very odd; with 12 legs!

Unless it is a mating pair.

Antennae seem different though so possibly two different species?

Thanks Dave. Thanks Christina. Geoff, what have you got in that glass? You're seeing double. I can only count six legs.

So that is part of the flower which looks like three legs on one side of a body and antennae just ahead of the definite creature.

A bit clearer on the enlargement.

Can anybody else see an apparent second insect on the first photo?
