    a plate of fruit

    Hey all,

I'm back again after a short hiatus. I recently got a promotion and have been quite busy with work. Its also been so hot in the northeast that I have had no desire to go out and take photos. Anyway I was speaking to the chef I did some photos for a few months ago and I suggested to him an idea that I had about his fruit plate. He liked it enough to invite me back again. I ended up shooting all their new dessert items. So everything worked out.

You make food photography look easy to do, which it is not.
    Really nice capture.

Great shot Jason, especially like how the image is reflected. As a chef & photographer, I know how difficult this kind of shot is.

    Hi Jason!

    The shot looks good.

Any particular reason for that particular crop?

Jason, that's a really novel approach. Like that a lot.

Wow thanks everyone! I have to say its really a privilege to work with someone so talented. I have also had a lot of tips and advice from people here on cic. When I first started out on here I was a noob to digital photography and only had dabbled in film.

    John, Thanks for the congratulations!

Travis, I worked for years in kitchens and studied culinary arts and restaurant management in college. I think it helps to know about food when doing food photography.

Terry, The chef I did the work for has a very unique style. One of his plates I shot for him a while back everything was butted up right to the edge of the plate. A few of his plates have this shifted to one side compositions. I decided to do that with this photo which is actually as it was taken.

Heres the plate I was talking about. I posted it here on cic awhile back.

Well I was just curious Jason!

But since you explained it makes sense and is a good call on the crop I'd say.

I must have missed the second photo you posted (I miss a lot and can't ever get caught up!). But I like them both.

    Nice work!

Thank you. Its hard to keep up with all of the photos here on cic. I don't think even Dave sees them all!

Amazing image, Jason. Looks like it would work well for an advertisement with plenty of negative space to add text.

Thanks. I actually added text in light gray for my photography page on Facebook.
