    Website photo background color

I am about to put together a website to display my work, was wondering if there is an RGB # like 118-118-118 that is considered the best neutral background for images.
    Thanks

Simple answer - no. Back in the early days of dial up and older technologies, there were 'internet safe" colours, but for all intents and purposes, any sRGB colour choice will work today. The rest is just personal taste.

I like (0, 0, 0). Impossible to concentrate on anything but the photo. All of my editing backgrounds are set to solid black. It can look a little harsh, drawing one's focus to the photo/background line, but (to my personal aesthetics) it's especially well suited to colorful photos.

I agree with Rex and most of my smugmug galleries are presented with black or dark gray backgrounds...

My www, smugmug, com home page also uses black/dark gray as a background...

However, I occasonally will choose another color such as this tan color for my Desert Southwest images...

The nice thing about smugmug, com is that I can choose from many colors and designs and can easly switch from one motif to another.

I personally prefer dark grey or black backgrounds, although occasionally other neutral colours can work well. Take a look at the choices on here and you will get a good idea of what works.

+1 for a dark neutral 'color'

When I chose (PBase), I avoided Flickr partly because it was too white/bright on many pages - same was true for a few other sites (e.g. Picasa which I started with).

I enjoy and find restful the dark tone option of CiC whatever it is.

Though for my website it currently is set at HEX a0a0a0 which permits black text.

The white background can look very snazzy done properly but is a strain on the eyes, as also when used for projected images which is worse than the computer monitor ... at least here there are the surrounding tones of the room.
