What a impressive look! ... like an owl! (my first trial using RAW)

I saw a pair of owls and decided to take some photos.
While I was taking photos, this one looked at me intently.

This is my first trial using RAW. C&C are welcome, as always.
    Antonio.

Very nice Antonio, stunning at 1:1 (i.e. viewed at 1500 x 1000 in Lytebox)

Is this much of a crop? The quality implies not.

Really the only issue I see is a bit of over exposure on the eye ridges, but we must remember the SX50 is still a small sensor camera, so that may well be where the limitation is.

Not sure you can get this quality at 1000mm on a P510.

Well done, very good start on RAW processing,

Amazing detail, Antonio. Nice processing. I agree with Dave about the exposure on the eye ridges.

I like those yellow semi-circles at the bottom of the eyes. Makes it look like a schoolmaster peering over the top of his glasses at you.

Beautiful Owl Antonio... it appears to be a Burrowing Owl. These little guys nest in a burrow in the ground. If you have Lightroom for post processing the slight over exposure Dave mentions can be corrected using the Adjustment Brush set to Burn (darken) to darken the exposure. Well done.

    Dave,
Thank you very much! Your kind words make me happy.

The original photo has 4000 x 3000 pixels, the cropped version has 3099 x 2066 pixels. Then the crop factor is 1.29 and the final focal lenght is 1200 x 1,29 = 1548 mm FFE.

You are right! I'll try fixing it with PP.

I think that the P510 would give similar results, but the image would be a little smaller (the final focal distance would be 1487 mm FFE). The disadvantage of P510 is the absence of RAW. But in the case of this photo the PP corrections are minimum.
If you want to see a RAW photo taken with SX50 and really corrected by PP, please see The Moon @1200mm FFE. [There you can compare a photo taken with SX50 and one taken with a D800E with a 80-400mm F4.5-5.6 Zoom (@400mm)].
