    Old School Nature Photography

My first camera, the Minolta SRT101, was full on manual... focus, aperture, and shutter speed. These days I shoot a full frame Nikon dslr for serious stuff, but for fun, I prefer something more portable. Using a wee u4/3 camera body, I find I enjoy a back-to-the-future experience, using vintage Nikon lenses adapted for the u4/3 mount. These backyard samples were taken with an Olympus ep3 in manual mode... an experience much like the old days but with the additional flexibility/complication of choosing an iso setting.

Welcome to CiC! The first photo is my favourite but the last photo, Big Red, is a close runner up.

Welcome to CIC. Nice initial set and it's the last one for me.

Thanks, John. He's my favorite, too... both the picture and the critter.

Glad to see that you're still shooting hummers, Frank. I'm using a tiny netbook right now that doesn't do your photos justice.

Thanks, Dave. Hummingbirds are wonderful subjects. Lots of character and attitude packed into a tiny package.

    Re: Old School Nature Photography

Now that I'm able to view the images on a respectable monitor, I like each photo better than the previous photo. The first one doesn't work for me due to the strong shadows and the busy background but the other three work great. The last one is really terrific!
