Pumping the Money Do these images work?

Went out to experiment with my camera today and do something different. I am wondering if these "motion" images work for anyone out there.

Also, I have come to realize that I absolutely STINK at B&W conversions.

    Camera Canon EOS REBEL T3i
    Exposure 0.077 sec (1/13)
    Aperture f/18.0
    Focal Length 85 mm
    ISO Speed 100
    Exposure Bias 0 EV

I stacked four images to make this photo. Could not give EXIF data except to say that it matched the same as the previous photo.

And my extremely feeble attempt at converting to black and white. I just don't understand how to do the conversion without making it look too gray. I followed the tutorial instructions for Corel Paintshop and couldn't make it work.

Kris, I like the 2nd one best because the the big part at the front is raised and looks like it has some way to travel. The rear section looks a little crazy though. In fact, when I first viewed them, the both reminded me of one of these things on steroids http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1-u4wiq_8AM

#2 also works well for me. (The pun is intended. Unfortunately, feeling compelled to explain it probably means that I shouldn't have made it in the first place.)

Can you stack enough images to get the full range of motion on the pumpjack head? Also maybe consider a crop like the black and white. Great concept though.

Thanks for the comments guys. My original intent was to try out my new neutral density filter. The one I purchased was a 2 stop and I think I need to add another 2 stop to it if I'm going to attempt this again in those lighting conditions. I want to get the motion effect with a single image instead of stacking.

tbob - I looked through the images and didn't have enough of them put together to stack it in a full range of motion. Perhaps I will try it again when I go out and shoot again this coming Sunday.
