Had a friendly encounter with this Juvenile Bald Eagle this morning. Very harsh mid morning sun but the 200-400 managed it well.

I'd say that 200-400 handled it well in the hands of a master. Very nice. Especially the last!

WOW. Really, really nice, Monte. The detail in the first one is insane. Well processed, too.
Seems like you must be able to get pretty close to all of your bird of prey subjects, to have such detail from a 400mm.

Thanks everyone for the feedback.
Matt: Yes. This morning I was no more than 25 feet from this Eagle. I got several close-ups of it just sitting right on front of me, filling most of the frame at 400mm. It is the beauty of approaching from the water side in a kayak. Their comfort level goes way up.

Monte, thank you for replying with this info. Seeing that I am super interested in wildlife photography and trying to learn as much as I can, getting some kind of boat is now on my list based on the images you've been showcasing. (First, a more out-doorsey car will be needed though

Really nice set, Monte. You nailed the techs on all of these. Ya gotta love that 200-400. That last portrait shot in post #11 edges out the rest IMO. It's hard to have a bad day spent in the company of these guys. Even if you come away without a shot it's one heck of a fun time much less when you make these kind of captures. Nicely done.
