It seems everyone who has viewed this image has taken note of the sign, and is standing back from commenting
I think the negative space works to marginalise the character, as does his alignment with the rubbish bin. That might not be your intention, but who cares about the artist's intention. The image is the artefact and the viewer reads what s/he sees.
