Right at the moment - having to go out a chair an Annual General Meeting of a group in our village and not having had anything to eat, YES!

    Wonderfully colourful.

    Thanks Donald and Richard.

That is a bit of French cooking. If anything, the French know about good food.

Very nice but I think the cut pieces should be more coated more in the juices, looks a bit gray on the edges.

    Hi John,

Are you going to add spices and Tomato Sauce and have the chef eloquently escort you out of his restaurant with a very sharp knife in your back telling you to go have a McDonalds burger?

You tell him, I am not going to.

If he wants to earn a Michelin star he'll accept the critique.

One thing that I noticed about my coverage of my China trip is that I shot almost no images of the food in restaurants. To tell you the truth, most of the food was not photogenic. I will remedy that on my trip to Venice, Greece and Istanbul...

Food photography is really difficult. As a chef and photographer I know. my criticisms here are more food based than photo based. The light is too harsh, the sauce on the right side of the photo reeks of oil & the glaze on the meat is too oily. As a photo it works, as food to eat, it doesn't.

You were probably eating in the wrong places. I have seen many times food so well presented that I would just sit there and admire the chef's work and not touch the food for a while.

I usually don't have time to take photos when it comes to food.
But... Yes, the photo made me hungry even at 9 am

Richard, in my opinion Chinese food is not worth photographing. I think it is the worst tasting food in the world. How can you ever acquire a taste for old used cooking oil. Never mind the dog, rat and cat taste. Eating raw fish is not my style either.
I must say however, I quite like the rice.

No, come on Travis, that seems like chefs envy. It was honey glazed, no oil or fat there. Maybe the photographer using a bridge camera with a build in flash did not make it look as good as it was.

I know why Arslan, the Turks know how to enjoy a good meal. This is what a Turkish Restaurant in Irene has to say:

"A great meal is not one that fills you up; it is a journey that returns you to a source of pleasure you may have forgotten whilst exciting all of your senses. From the warm welcome you receive upon arrival; candles are lit and the sound of beautiful music surrounds your ears, to the contrasting flavors of our freshly prepared dishes which will send your taste sensation on a separate journey."

I think Richard will enjoy his visit to Istanbul. OOPS he is on a diet.

    Re: Anybody hungry?

Yes the food content in Mainland China can be iffy - fake this, fake that etc. Though I have a multiple entry visa for that place I stopped going there about 2 years ago. In the past I used to go up there a couple of time whenever I was in Hong Kong.

But... about food. Any food well prepared is great food. It does not take a master chef to make a great meal (as you have proven).

I digress - next time I am in Hong Kong will take in food shots as well. Food is a big thing there and if it is no good the place will close down very very fast. They just cannot afford the rents if the biz is not bringing in the revenue.

Surely there were some exotic Asian dishes that were photogrenic based on ingredients alone?
